General information and objectives

As a non-profit organization with about 150 individual members and, at present, about 60 member institutions it forms a reunion of all technical branches in Switzerland. It is the most recent of the four Swiss academies.

Its individual members, its corresponding members across the world and its member societies constitute a forum for contacts between the numerous technical and scientific fields. The academy is specially qualified for multidisciplinary activities within the technical sciences. Specialists and engineers in all branches active in industry, universities and research institutes contribute to a thorough understanding of actual problems.

The federal law on research formally recognizes the SATW as a national institution for the promotion of science. It assigns responsibilities in the fields of communication, information exchange, and coordination on the national and international scene. The SATW takes an active part in the definition of the Swiss science policy.
