General information and objectives

The Alliance's purpose goes beyond creating knowledge to applying knowledge generated within the academic research community to the pragmatic task of achieving goals in the real world. To this end, research results will be quickly shared with governments, industry, public interest groups, and other univeristies through reports, workshops and conferences.
  • Narrow the gap between what we know and what we need to know.

  • Combine knowledge, which is generated by individual disciplines, into integrated whole-systems analysis.

  • Move stakeholders beyond adversarial use of knowledge toward cooperative development of innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Understand and bridge cultural differences in research styles, policy formation, and communication.

  • Educate future generations of problem-solvers to work flexibly in integrated, multidisciplinary teams.
