General information and objectives

The Swiss Geological Society (SGS), founded in 1882, promotes the advancement of the Earth Sciences by organizing meetings during the annual assemblies of the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences (SAS), and by arranging annual reunions of groups of specialists. Symposia and thematic excursions take place on a regular basis, commonly in collaboration with other societies. The SGS also supports young scientists who attend the meetings of the SAS and the Congress of the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) in Strasbourg.

The Swiss Groups of Engineering Geologists, Geophysicists, Tectonicians, and Sedimentologists are affiliated to the SGS.
The SGS publishes the Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae, which the members receive free of charge. In order to subscribe, please contact directly the President of the SGS.

Moreover, the SGS supports the new European Journal for the Geosciences « Terra Nova » and offers to its members the yearly subscription at a considerably reduced price.
