General information and objectives

The SSES is a society with non-materialistic goals. Our aim is the promotion of research on solar energy and its use in the widest sense, the promotion of the exchange of scientific and technical information between our members, the dissemination of our ideas among the general public and internation co-operation. The importance of solar energy in the scope of a long-term enrgy concept is anchored in the SSES statement of policy, which was approved by the assembly of delegates.
  • Problem statement
Switzerland is dependent to a degree of 85 % on imported energy carriers. The only domestic energy source is solar energy, which can be used in various ways: direct insolation, ambient heat, wind energy and hydraulic power, biomass etc. Switzerland is able to become energetically self-sufficient.
  • Plan of action to reach our goals
The SSES represents not only private, singular interests, but also those of architects and heating and ventilation consultants, engineering offices, construction companies, industry, service companies, corporations and local authorities. The SSES informs its members and the general public on the newest implementations of solar technology through its bi-monthly magazine "Sonnenenergie". We organise symposiums on current topics and publish the results. We inform the general public and media in the framework of exhibitions and trade fairs such as the Schweizer Mustermesse, Swissbau, Comptoir Suisse, Haus und Garten, ERDA, BEA, Olma etc. We are active in energy politics and take part in pre-audits of legislation both at local, cantonal and federal levels. We offer further education, courses and educational trips and are represented in various federal committees and programmes.
