General information and objectives

Aims Encourage wise use and conservation of soil and water resources so that these can sustain mankind forever; promote responsibility for wise use and conservation of soil and water by serving as a forum for scientists, conservation professionals, and policymakers in assessing soil and water conservation needs worldwide. Specifically: monitor soil and water conservation practices; assess needs and support conservation action in each nation and worldwide; develop a world-wide information exchange among members; provide a means by which members can become aware of one another's problems and possible solutions to those problems; encourage research and demonstration projects to assist understanding of how more effective soil and water conservation methods may be put into practice; emphasize need for protecting soil and water resources from destruction, to ensure survival of mankind now and in the future.

Activities Priorities include:
(a) Training and institution building;
(b) Communication;
(c) Research;
(d) Development.

Disseminates information on soil and water conservation. Conducts training courses, workshops. Publicizes programmes of other organizations sponsoring soil and water conservation research. Associated Bodies:
