Abstract:
Clonal diversity of tor grass (Brachypodium pinnatum) in the Swiss National Park
In the Swiss National Park, tor grass is close to the edge of its ecological range. Consequently, colonies of tor grass are rather rare but easy to spot and well defined (Bärlocher 1999, Bärlocher et al. 2000). Long-term monitoring allows, further, to reconstruct the life history of several clones back to 1940. The largest clone measures about 15m in diameter and is about 250 years old. Therefore, the population in the Swiss National Park represents an excellent model system for studying the development of both the population and individual clones. Leading questions:
Brachypodium pinnatum befindet sich im Schweizerischen Nationalpark an der oberen Verbreitungsgrenze. Die Art ist daher im Park relativ selten, bildet aber sehr auffällige, oft vergleichsweise grosse und gut abgrenzbare Kolonien (Bärlocher 1999, Bärlocher et al. 2000). Dank den unveröffentlichten Notizen von Balthasar Stüssi ist von mehreren. der bis zu schätzungsweise 250 Jahre alten und bis zu 15m grossen (Durchmesser) Kolonien bekannt, wie sie sich seit ca. 1940 entwickelt haben. Die Art eignet sich aus den genannten Gründen sehr gut als Modellsystem um zu untersuchen, (i) wie sich Populationen ausbreiten aber insbesondere auch, (ii) wie die einzelnen Kolonien sich entwickeln. Wegen ihrer Grösse, guten Abgrenzbarkeit und der vorhandenen Langzeitdaten eignen sich die Brachypodium pinnatum Kolonien im Nationalpark besonders für die Untersuchungen der Lebensgeschichte einzelner Kolonien. Von speziellem Interesse sind dabei genetische Aspekte (Koppitz & Kühl 2000).wie z.B.
