Abstract:
The biological communities within the range between low and high water level of the Swiss National Park creeks are poorly known. First observations, however, indicate that they differ strongly with environmental conditions controling the local fauna and flora. Important factors seem to be the type of terrestrial habitats they are connected to, the hydrology and the valley shape, that determines e.g. their exposition to sunlight. In the course of the research program basic data are collected in order to research the variability of the habitats and their communities. Habitats and organisms are documented and mapped, for species identification animals of different groups (as beetles, spiders and grasshoppers) are caught with nets and / or pitfall traps. Depending on the first results a long-term monitoring program will be planned.
