Abstract:
This project (funded by SNF Agora) aims to make climate change tangible and produce an emotional involvement by means of Virtual Reality (VR). A VR-Experience will simulate the alpine environment around the Aletsch glacier to let the target audience, mainly young people – classes of secondary and gymnasium schools, experience scenarios of a future world at and beyond the 2°C target. With high-resolution geospatial data (Jouvet et al. 2011, Linsbauer et al. 2012) and a professional game environment, users can be transformed into a compelling reconstruction of the alpine environment. A study will examine the effects of the experience on the participating school classes.
