Specialties of Hansjürg Büchi:
Sustainable development as holistic system, focus Switzerland/Alpine Regions
Adaptation of land use in alpine regions, urbanization and regional change (ecological, social, economical) in the AlpsInter-/Transdisciplinarity, and interdisciplinary exchange
University development and university politics
Under the aspect of sustainable development all change in dhe alpine regions has to be discussed under the view of all three parts of sustainability (i.e. ecology, economy and social). The changes in actual land use correspond directely with a more and more urbanistic lifestyle of the inhabitants, where mobility grows further on. In this context it is important not to see the alps only as tourism region with a lot of natural areas, but also as area of an actual change in life strategies of heir inhabitants with a lot of interactive processes between all these aspects (suburbanization, ''mainstream lifestyle'' with lack of knowledge/interest in regional knowledge and culture).
In the described context it is important not to see the alps only as tourism region with a lot of natural areas, but also as area of an actual change in life strategies of heir inhabitants with a lot of interactive processes between all these aspects (suburbanization, ''mainstream lifestyle'' with lack of knowledge/interest in regional knowledge and culture). Remarkable is a growing gap between this change of lifestyle (i.e. the way as life is individually lived) and the self-view as inhabitant of a region (the norms inhabitants think are characteristic for the region and the political decisions based on this norms). This difference has impact on every planning process and every strategy of land use.
