Abstract:
The Parc Adula is placed between the two cantons of Graubünden and Ticino. It's aim is to become the biggest national parc of Switzerland in 2015. To reach this, the parc has to fulfill various requirements. One of these is the implementation of renewable energies and measures of energy efficiencies. The main renewable technologies the parc wants to put their focus on, is photovoltaic and fresh water power station. Therefore the park has defined a specific region including municipalities of Medel, Sumvitg, Lumnezia (Vrin), Vals, Blenio and Serravalle.
This work attempt to show in which places of the region, a potential of hydroelectricity and thermal energy are given. The basis of fresh water power stations are also a part in this study.
In order to achieve this aim, several steps had to be taken. First of all researches about basic principles and elevation for both potentials are needed. In addition surveys and inspections of fresh water systems where made. After this the data had to be aggregated. With approximate calculations suitable sites could be shown. For the hydro electrical potential further calculations had to be done to show the productivity and profitability of the suitable locations.
The thermal energy after the heat pump where calculated to show the thermal potential. A comparison where also made between the calculated thermal energy and how much people could be supplied with this heat.
The findings reveal that in the community of Medel and some places of the community of Sumvitg places are given for a profitable operation of fresh water power stations. This sites are Medel with a energy yield of 248'000 kWh/a, the site Sumvitg and Cumpadials 1'100'000 kWh/a and Rabius with 132'538 kWh/a.
The thermal energy yield are between 825'000 and 7'655'000 kWh/a. Possible sites to use thermal power are in Medel, Sumvitg, Vrin and Vals.
The final discussion highlights significant uncertainties of the measured data, different cooperations of the communities and challenges of the assessment of hydro electrical and thermal potential. In addition, some suggestions for the different sites where made.
