Abstract:
Climate and forst stand history in the Cembran pine forest God da Tamangur The natural reserve God Tamangur is located at the upper end of Val S-charl, on the west-exposed valley slopes. The very dense Cembran pine forest stand is recognized as being the highest in Europe and is said to have individuals of up to 800 years in age. In the context of this project (i) the das age of the pine trees und and the timing of the last anthropogenic activities within the forest stand shall be evaluated. From a climatic perspective, the project ims at reconstructing temperatures and precipitation at this high-elevation, dry site. For this purpose, the project does not only focus on tree-ring widths (TRW) but also includes analyses of cell wall thickness (CWT) as well as changes in 13C and 18O isotopes. Comparable long-term studies do not exist for south-eastern Switzerland, and could thus help to bridge the gap between other, very long series from the Western and the more Eastern Alps.
