Abstract:
The high alpine observatory at Jungfraujoch (JFJ) in the Swiss Alps offers very attractive characteristics of field measurements since it allows to sample air of the free troposphere. In our study we will focus on the chemistry of nitrogen species which are key species in tropospheric chemsitry. NOy includes the primary air pollutants NO and NO2 (NOx) as well as species formed by oxidation from NOx .NOy has been continuously measured by Empa since 1995 showing an increase which is presently not well understood since the emissions of nitrogen oxides emitted from Europe have decreased during the same period. In the project additional field measurements will be performed as well as data analysis, including trajectory analysis providing information on the origin of the air masses measured at JFJ.
