Abstract:
On 3 June 2008, the "Stiftung Sammlung Bündner Naturmuseum", the management of Parc Ela and the Bergün-Filisur Tourist Office organised a joint Biodiversity Day. In a 24-hour campaign, a team of 50 scientist assessed the greatest possible number of different species of fungi, plants and animals. This campaign was analogous to those that the magazine GEO has been promoting and organising in Europe since 1999. The study area on the Albula Pass in Grisons (Switzerland) covered 11,4 km2 and ranged in altitude from 1500 to 2100 m a.s.l. It covered a wide range of different habitats - a mosaic of woodland, pastures, meadows, rocky areas, scree slopes, mires, rivers and streams, small settlements, roads and railway lines. A total of 1535 different species were identified, including 3 recorded for the first time in Switzerland, 11 for the first time in Grisons and a number of other spectacular plant and animal species.
