Entomology, rare species
One of the key role of the Swiss Nationalpark is to maintain viable populations of animal and flora species a part from human pressures. Under this aspect, it is of prime importance to follow the evolution of rare species populations and to localise possible reservoirs in the surrounding areas. Some of the very rare species are often bound to very different habitats compared to the main species belonging to the same group and therefore escape classical sampling methods used. Concerning the Rhopalocera fo the Swiss Nationalpark, 6 species are particularly concerned: Erebia styx, Melitaea asteria, Euphydryas intermedia, Pontia callidice, Pyrgus warrenensis et Boloria thore. These species belong to the high conservation priority at national level (FOEN 2011) and are redlisted (Wermeille et al. 2014). Our project will first re-sample stations where they have been found previously. Furthermore we will also sampled favourable stations identified on the basis of their ecological constraints as well as plant association to which they are bound. These investigations will allow to confirm the presence of absence of these species as well as the population status and permit to manage long-term monitoring.
