Abstract:
The master thesis aims to develop a novel approach for evaluating the level of motivation of hik-ers who are guided by a location-based mobile learning application (LBML) through a nature reserve. The aim is to extract this information, which is needed for evaluating the motivating ef-fect of the digital tool, by tracking the hikers’ movements, and analyzing the resulting trajectories for spatio-temporal patterns related to motivation. With this approach, it is intended to produce a framework for exciting and motivational learning units with LBML applications. A study will be conducted in Swiss National Park that animates by-passing hikers to experience the natural trail either with the LBML application or with the static information boards on the given hiking trail. All participants will be tracked with a GPS sensor. Their motivational level will be sampled with questionnaires originating form psychological research.
