Abstract:
Due to the global warming the importance of glacier monitoring has increased during the last years. The reference networks for glaciers in the alpine region had to be extended. All larger glaciers in Switzerland are monitored by means of photogrammetric methods. The necessary reference points can be measured efficiently with GPS methods. Thus the reliable determination of mass, volume and length changes of glaciers can be done yearly. Permafrost areas and glacier hazards which threaten inhabited zones are being controlled.
