General information and objectives

IGFA is an informal partnership of national agencies which fund global change research programs and other activities supporting such research. The purpose of the Group is to facilitate international global change research in the natural, social and economic sciences by bringing the perspective of these national funding agencies to strategic planning and implementation of such research.

  • IGFA exchanges information on national global change research programs, supporting programs and facilities;

  • IGFA discusses approaches to the integration and phasing of implementation of global change research in light of available resources;

  • IGFA promotes coordination of access to and deployment of specialized research facilities; and

  • IGFA aims to optimize allocation of national contributions to global change research.

    Membership:
    The Group consists of representatives of national (including the European Commission) co-ordinating bodies, for funding global change research and/or the lead funding agency/agencies for global change research. Acceptance of new members by the Group will be based on demonstrated national agency interest in and support for global change research programs.

    IGFA is not a funding agency and does not fund research projects
