General information and objectives
The World Climate Programme (WCP) comprises the following components:The objectives of the WCP are:
Co-ordination of the overall Programme is the responsibility of the WMO, along with direct management of the WCDMP and WCASP. The UN Environment Programme has accepted responsibility for the WCIRP, while the WCRP is a joint effort between WMO and the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). Other organizations involved in the Programme include UNESCO, IOC, FAO, WHO, IFAD, and the Consultative Group for International Agricultural research (OGIAR). The Co-ordinating Committee for the World Climate Programme (CCWCP) provides overall coordination between the four components of the World Climate Programme and effective communication and co-ordination with other related international climate activities. Co-ordination of activities on the climate change issue involves support to intergovernmental mechanisms such as the WMO/UNEP Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and to the development of international agreements on climate and its protection, such as a Framework Convention on climate change (FCCC) that is developed through the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the FCCC.
