Research Focus of the Institute:

The aim of the new Institute is to analyze individual and collective decisions in the context of natural resource utilization and environmental problems. Furthermore, the IED wants to support private and political decision makers who are striving for sustainability and who have to face a tremendous amount of risks and uncertainties. Climate change related decisions are a prominent example for decisions that have to be made on a very weak basis of knowledge about future states of the world.
IED will focus on research as well as on teaching at different levels. The Institute is responsible for the Social Sciences part of the ETH Master program in Environmental Sciences.
