General information and objectives

The mandate of the NKGCF can be summarised as follows:

• National contact point for the international GEC research programmes;
• Assistance to German members in international committees, supporting the participation of young German scientists in the work of these committees and coordination with other national global change committees;
• Development and evaluation of international activities and consequences to national research contributions;
• Exerting an influence on European scientific GEC programmes;
• Evaluation and quality assurance of national programmes;
• Definition of research needs and encouragement of innovative research approaches in consideration of contributions from senate commissions of the DFG and advisory committees of the BMBF;
• Evaluation of applied themes in GEC research (e.g. science assisting the development/implementation of conventions);
• Evaluation of use and further development of global observation systems;
• Evaluation of funding and further development of overlapping sectoral research and integrative methods;
• Evaluation of funding strategies and programme development in all fields of national GEC research;
• Advising the German members of the International Group of Funding Agencies (IGFA), with special regard to the financing of joint international research activities and required infrastructure of the international programm
