General information and objectives
The objective of COST 712 was to study and improve meteorological applications of microwave radiometry, especially with respect to the hydrological cycle, and atmospheric processes involved in these phenomena [1].Achievement of the objective was sought through developments in four research areas, and thus in four projects:
1. Development of Radiative Transfer Models
The interaction of microwave radiation with the Earth's atmosphere and surface.
2. Retrieval, Analysis and Assimilation Techniques
The retrieval, analysis and assimilation techniques through which atmospheric and surface parameters are estimated from the data.
3. Assessment of Methods
Verification and validation studies through which the accuracy and characteristics of the data analysis techniques may be assessed.
4. Measurement Facilities and Techniques
Recommendations for measurement facilities and techniques, including ground-based, airborne and space-based radiometers.
