General information and objectives

SCOR was established to further international activity in all branches of oceanic research. SCOR carries out this responsibility by examining problems and enhancing international action through its working groups, via improvements in methodology and design of critical experiments and measuring programmes. SCOR is the lead organization responsible for the development of the JOFS Core Project of IGBP and acts as the Scientific Advisor to IOC. The Global Ocean Ecosystems Dynamics (GLOBEC) International program is being planned and implemented by SCOR. Other activities extend to development of science policy and national and international cooperation and collaboration with WMO, WCRP(TOGA).
